The Vizsla Club of Illinois is offering it's Annual Canine Good Citizen Test at the Double Bubble Fun Day. The American Kennel Club began Canine Good Citizen (CGC) testing in 1989.
The CGC program:

Encourages responsible ownership

bullet

Raises awareness of the importance of socialization and training for dogs

bullet

Is a good gauge of temperament and stability

To pass the CGC Test and receive a certificate, a dogs must be at least 6 months old and pass all 10 items of the test which follow:

1. Accepting a friendly stranger
The evaluator approaches and shakes hands with the handler without touching the dog
2. Sitting politely for petting

The evaluator pets the dogs. The dog must show no shyness or resentment
3. Appearance and grooming

The evaluator inspects the dog, then combs or brushes the dog lightly, and examine the dog's ears and front feet
4. Out for a walk

The handler takes the dog for a short walk and must do a right turn, left, turn, about turn, and a stop.
5. Walking through a crowd

The dog and handler walk close to several people; the dog may show casual interest but may not jump up.
6. Sit and down on command / Staying in place

The handler shows that the dog can do a sit and a down, chooses a position, leaves the dog in stay and goes to the end of a 20 foot line, then returns immediately.
7. Coming when called

With the dog still on a 20 foot line from Test 6, the handler walks out 10 feet and calls the dog.
8. Reaction to another dog

Two handlers and dogs approach, shake hands, exchange pleasantries, and move on. The dogs can show casual interest.
9. Reaction to distractions

Distractions are presented; the dog may not panic or show aggression
10. Supervised separation

The handler goes out of sight for 3 minutes. The dog is is held on a 6 foot leash by an evaluator.
