2006 VCOI Fall Field Trial
Des Plaines Wildlife Area - Joliet, IL
September 23-24, 2006

At our fall field trial it was good to see new members and old. We had the perfect weekend for the VCOI trial. In the past we have had hot weekends and wet weekends, but most are not cool. The temperature was great for running dogs.

This year we hired a horse wrangler. It has been a long time since we have had a wrangler. several handlers rented horses and things seemed to run smoothly with no horse issues.

Our entries were light this year with many of the regulars committed for the weekend or at other trials. With the light entries the trial was much more laid back than most we have had. I was a little under the weather by Saturday night but I hear it was quite a party. from what I was told Saturday nights dinner was great. Greg Heiden brought champaign and had a toast for Cleo for finishing her FC and AFC.

The food vendor was serving food at another event so we ordered out Subway for lunch. Thanks to Mark Johnson and other members we had a table set up by his trailer that had all the coffee juice and breakfast snacks anyone could want.

The dogs ran well with the cooler weather. Very few had no bird work at all. I saw several dogs making the transition into gundog. It should be interesting with the caliber of new dogs moving up. I only watched a few juvenile braces but, what I saw looked great. We should have some more nice dogs coming up.

I would like to congratulate Mike Dalby who won the Most Potential Young Vizsla Award with Rock. I would like to thank the many people that have helped with this trial. without the judges, bird planters, gunners, line marshals, and anyone else I missed this trial would not be possible. See you at the next trial!
