2003 VCOI Fall Field Trial

I want to thank everyone that came to the fall field trial and helped out. Robert Tomczak was Secretary and did all of the preliminary work. I was Chairing the event. Friday night Tom called me and told me that I had a really sick dog at home. I was going to have to leave Saturday morning as soon as I got things rolling, but he was able to go to the emergency vet and keep Zoë and her pups alive all by himself, and I was thankfully able to stay the whole weekend.

Colomba Barger was my right hand woman all weekend. Captain Colomba marshaled and cracked the whip to keep the guys going to the line on time. Victor Barger, Tony Ordonez, Greg Wegler, Jim Busch, DennisNowak, Kevin Berta, Bill Elliot, Jeff Parise, Greg Hedien, Paul Howard, and Mark Smith bird planted and marshaled, I am sure there are others I may have missed.

Our judges, Barry Peterson, Dean Nelson, Jim Couris, Jim Gingrich, Carl Wilbur, and Kim Kitchen worked above and beyond the call of duty. Judging a total of 71 dogs on Saturday and 53 on Sunday made for two long days in the saddle. While the weather was a little hot for the dogs, at least the judges had comfortable temperatures!

Michel Berner was there with her laptop computer and kept the trial organized. We had several people scratch dogs at the last minute and it threw the schedule into chaos. With Michel making adjustments on the computer and color coding the print-outs so that Colomba and I always had an up to the minute running order, we were able to manage the conflicts with only a few seemingly impossible and impassable problems. And we will hopefully never have to see a running order version 4.6 again! We were not sure we could finish the trial on time, but ended up being done by 5PM on Sunday. I don't think any other club could have handled the problems as well as we did. Job well-done guys!
